Default Custom Rear Reflector----Progress Pics

Hey guys,
I have a few pics of the progress I have made on my rear reflector. After pricing the OEM reflector from the dealer, I decided to have mine painted.

My reflector was cracked completely down the center, all the way through the plastic making it 2 seperate pieces of plastic, along with many more hairline cracks. I sealed the 2 together, and filled all the other cracks, then sanded back smooth. I then cut 3 sheets of styrene plastc to be the exact size as the reflector, which I purchased from hobbytown. Using zap-a-gap and epoxy I applied them over the top of the reflector, filled the lines where the 3 sheets met, and am now in the process of finishing all the sanding/smoothing over before the reflector can be painted. Here is a picture of where it stands now.

Default Let's start a trend!

Well done! I did the same and find it more modern looking (IMHO).

Who's next?

Agreed, keeps the classic look at the same time that it updates it slightly. Any pics you can post of yours?

I believe there are 4 or 5 of us who have done it on the board so far, la964rs jr, la964rs which I got the idea from, you, me, and maybe one more

I'm thinking about it. Not 100% yet...my car is the same colour as browse's car...maybe some pics can push me over the edge. Right now, I find that the painted centre looks better on light coloured cars.

You are right, it would be cool to see if anyone has done this with a darker colourd car. IMHO it probably also looks better on a widebodied like LA964RS' car

Really nice.

Recently mpeters951 went for that look too in a '90 Carrera 2 coupé

Mine (Carrera 2 coupé) is also Grand Prix white and that look is truly a discover, love it!! but...
how to keep the reverse and rear fog lights? here in Spain is mandatory... maybe using rear lights from a 'G-Series'? placing reverse light in other location?...

Help!!

thanks, David

Do you not need reversing lights in the US?

Define "need" haha

Just messing, I have had numerous cops behind me, and never had an issue, with the straight pipes, or the reflector

Can you describe how this piece was prepped/painted-it looks perfect. Also your L&R lenses look different than standard, in the first photo they appear to have some orange and clear, not all red.

You'll fail state inspection in my state if you don't have reverse lights. But the real reason I'd want them on on my car is so that I don't back into a wall when reversing in the dark. If you're not concerned about it, go right ahead.

I'm not a big fan of the painted reflector because the center reflector gives the rear end of our cars a very finished, classic 911 look. Also, at least in the OP's case, the painted reflector doesn't look flush enough with the rest of the body. There are gaps with the bumper, the deck lid, and with the tail lights.

But to each his own.

Do you not need the reverse lights for your DOT inspection?

Looks good though!

not all of the states do the same DOT inspection. In Wisconsin, there's no physical inspection of the vehicle.
