Having had a look on the PETs, 7.5 x 17 ET65 wheels were fitted to the early 928 GTS's ('92 & '93) part no. 965 362 164 05.

The 7.5" size was used for 17" 968 optional front wheels-with a little more weight in the front compared to 964's they put a slightly wider wheel. Rears were 9".

Thanks everyone, I had always assumed these repops but I guess they are factory wheels. I picked them up a 3rd set of wheels for my 964.

Does anyone know who actually made the factory wheels for Porsche? If I am not mistaken OEM Porsche wheels were made in Italy.

I thought Mille Miglia also made the original wheels, as well as the licensed repro's. Probably wrong.

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but isn't the bottom of the Porsche shield (the pointy bit) always supposed to point at the valve stem?

Both are correct. Although the 928 wheel is different because it was fitted with 2 holes that accepted the tire pressure monitoring system called PDK.

There is one other application not mentioned and that was used on the US cup cars that never actually happened. These were the 20 Andial built cars.

I would also agree with the others that they appear to be original.

I found that using the 8" as fronts and the 9" as rears is a nice setup.

if you decide to pass on the set do you mind sharing?

Cobalt if you were referring to me I think I'm going to pass on this set, I really want the 9" rears - I already have a nice set of 7 & 8's. Same to you Brice. Unfortunatley (for you) the wheels are in Italy but if you are interested pm me and I'll see what I can do. Asking price was €500 with tires (probably old and useless ones) I can see if he'll accept less...

It's important that you align all of the wheels before you put the car on the ground. Make sure that the shields are all pointed up.

I appreciate it although sometimes i forget where a thread is originated from. To much to ship over here. The 8's are pretty hard to come by 7&9's are quite plentiful here in the US. I just picked up a set of 8" for my new fronts and have 7"s for sale. Looking for a second set of 8's can always dump the 7's.

Good Luck

This is actaully not true- the Andial converted US Carrera Cups used 8"'s on the front and 9.5's on the rear. There were also 25 converted cars and 20 that were never converted.

Dang your right. I got my 7.5 and 9.5's mixed up. It was 8 and 9.5 vs 7.5 and 9 as I was thinking.

So it is only the 2 cars 928 GTS and 968 option.

Between brakes and wheels this info is getting confusing. we need a sticky thread for all this info.
