RS Short Shift Install
Today I installed my new RS short shift kit. My car is a 1991 C2 so the guide tube bushings have to be replaced with the new oval bushing. To that end I had to do a bit of drilling and grinding. The job is fairly straight forward, I took everything apart, took out the guide tube and old bushings, and then lay out where the centre for the 36 m/m hole that needs to be drilled, is located. As the pictures show, I used my vernier to do the layout, one prong at the bottom of the hole, the other to scripe the centre line for the new hole, distance 1.830". Then I centre punched it and we are ready to drill. I used a 13/8" (35m/m) hole saw, did a good job, and then I blended in the holes with my die grinder. Then it is just a matter of installing the new bushings and guide tube, I did use some silicone around the new bushings, to replace the undercoating that I had to remove. My shift coupler bushings were also a bit worn, so I ordered new ones should be here Monday, then I can finish of the job.

The parts used are as mentioned before, the OEM RS short shift kit. I purchased it from Sunset Porsche (no affiliation), here are the part #'s and prices in US $.
1: 964-424-015-08 Gear Shift $ 52.53
4: 999-924-002-40 Plastic Sleeve $ 4.60
1: 964-424-017-01 Shift Fork $ 27.20
2: 964-424-028-00 Shift Tube Bushing $ 12.90
2: 99-1758-424-M230 Shift Coupler Bushing $ 7.85
There is a 993 RS Shift Rod with a newer style shift coupler, but the price is prohibitive, $ 300 plus, I dont' see any advantage to this item just a different U-joint.
Will post more pictures when done.

Mine is all back together except for the new coupler bushings, which I should get on Monday. It is hard so say what the difference is until I get to drive it, but just sitting in the seat and playing with the stick, shift effort is the same as before, silky smooth, the throws are shorter but no major change. The part I so far like the best is the taller stick, it is noticable closer to the wheel. I will give full report when I get it back on the road.

I made the top part of the stand myself, I do not know how to post a link to an earlier thread, but if you search crg53, go to page 3 and third thread from the bottom " The Evolution of the Jackstand" will show you some pictures.

Ah yes. I remember that thread. You could make a mint churning those out. Considering the Esco version cost about $125 per stand shipped duty and exchange in Canada. Excellent work mate.
