HELP, 964 oil overfilled

Default HELP, 964 oil overfilled

So i thought my oil was a little low but I think i may have added one quart too many. The gauge reads full when at idle and at operating temp. How would i go about draning about a quart of oil? Can i drain it right from the oil cooler plug or do i have to drain it from the crankcase drain plug? Any feedback would be greatly appriciated. Thanks!!!

Either (crankcase or oil tank) bottom plug will work.
Don't unscrew all the way and it'll dribble out in a fast enough manner.

Although this method does work I've never liked it because of the whole crush washer thingy. Once you loosen the plug you generally need a new crush washer otherwise you might get a leak from that area.

When this occured to me I found the oil tank to be the easiest to access. A simple wrench and a few turns on the plug until a steady controlled flow was established and all was back to normal.

The "crush" washer is not a crush washer . Its an aluminum washer that does not crush .
There is no need to replace it ever , unless it gets damaged somehow .

"It'll dribble out"
At a pace that would make a snail feel right at home .
Crack open the plug and put a clean container under the drip ,
come back in an hour ,
see how much oil is in the container .
Its slow at a drip

I used a turkey baster and got it from the tank filler. A short extension tube, and you can remove as much as you want. Engine needs to be running to keep the tank full.

I've never overfilled, but if it ever happens, I'm ready. I have an oil suction tank and hose that is designed for changing the oil in boats. It siphons the oil through the tube.

Or raise rear of car with wheels off the ground, start engine accelerate to 6000 rpm in 5th and prop accelerator with a stick, should burn some off...

Yeah I agree TR6.. Oil suction pump is perfect for taking out oil without slackening drain plugs. Keeps things clean and it has loads of other uses too.

hi, don't mean to bring this up again, few years later, but how do i go about it: using the oil suction pump. do i go through the yellow cap filler, where one usually fills the oil in? can the car be cold, running etc? how deep the line has to be? thanks

Don't trouble yerself; merely crack either drain plug a bit and allow whatever volume you desire to seep out - either slowly or quickly, cold is fine.

Re-torque the plug, wipe clean and keep an eye on it for 2 days.

Don't overfill again...

or stick 6 feet of aquarium air tubing down the dipstick hole and siphon. 1 qt = an hour to siphon out.

As long as the topic is going. Has anyone though of modifying the dipstick to read more easily? I find it crazy how hard the thing is to read. My oil is always so clean that I can't read it.

Thoughts?

Ps and I too overfilled once, and ended up with oil in my intake. Did not do much for performance to say the least. But it did teach me an awful lot about that whole system, since I had to take it all apart to clean it..lol.

It must be a very very long turkey baster, or it must have been very overfilled.

I thought my car was overfilled (in the end the oil level was perfect). Pushed over 1m of hose into the oil filler ... it never even touched the oil!? Waste of time.
