Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, regarding the looks of the stock shift ****.
What I will say is that Porsche designed the shifter to be in an excellent position relative to the driver (compared to a 'std' 964 shifter) and it performs very well.

Stig,

IMHO, you should PM Steve Weiner or Geoffrey Ring to get the full scoop. I must admit having never paid much attention to the nuances of a C4 versus a C2 (mine is a C2), other than discussions centered around the extra space in a C2, between the front wheels, where the front diff. and axles are located for C4s (I recall a post some time ago about how to utilize this space for brake cooling ducting).

I'm certainly no expert, but I don't see, off the top of my head, why Jeff's setup would NOT work in a C4. As Joe mentioned above, if you are able, call Jeff directly - it probably won't be a long conversation, but I guarantee it will be informative.

i emailed rothsport last month regarding the viability of installing their shifter in my 97 c4s and was disappointed to receive the reply below (note, their ad now states the shifter doesn't work in the awd cars). That said, I would love to hear from someone who successfully installed it in a 4s or turbo, and what was required to make it work.

Greetings Rothsport,

Does your billet shortshift kit for the 993 work in the AWD cars? I
have a C4S, and would like to know if your shifter still requires the
"tunnel dimple" mod like the rs kit?

Thanks, and it's a great looking bunch of kit.

Hi Jason,

I am sorry but it does not. I need to put that in our ad.

Thanks... Earl

I will post a pic later today. I think its the best single mod I've done. Adds to the feel of the car in my view.

I just ordered the Rothsport shifter for my cup car. I'll be removing a Fabcar shifter I never should had installed.

Coz,

You will love it. I had Gamroth install it along with FD Goldenrod and forward rod.

The difference is night and day; on a scale of 1-10 I'd give it an 11

BTW, love the pic of your Cup over on the 'bird.

I've just started a Rennlist Cup car photo and video thread - please post!

Interesting that a short-shifter would elicit so many strong positive endorsements. Now I'm feeling like I want one too! Argh!

Anyway, I can't believe that I'm asking this, but can someone post some more pics? I'm curious what everyone is doing about the shift 'boot' that covers the assembly. Clearly the stock leather boot can't be used, since it is integrated into the original ****. How is everyone addressing this?

Thanks.

Erick,

Monsieur Gamroth "modifies" (that is probably his middle name!) the shift boot, by cutting it right down and tucking it under and re-stitching it.

I'd post a picture of mine, had my dreadful IT/technology "skills" not erased all of my bloody photos! again! <Edit this: found one photo.

Feels brilliant, tactile, looks fantastic and despite my reservations, even in the August hot weather (90f+), never feels too hot.

Kai,

Oh yes. The last time I saw him race was last summer, in the Rose Cup Spec 911.

It was what you might call a "grudge" match between him and Carl Van A.

Can you guess who won ?

Didn't Carl put it to him?

For a while last year I couldn't help teasing Gammer constantly "hey, what's the matter, couldn't get around Carl..."

I can't wait 'till he builds another rental Spec 911 so I can come out and race with the boys - talk about pressure, given the size of my mouth!!!

Thank you! Looks nice - very purposeful.

So, Monsieur Gamroth is a seamstress too? Well, it's a better visual that imagining him in a Speedo...
