OK..............let's get this back on track. My car is twenty years old so someone must know of a solder n screw direct replacement with some nice uncomplicated black mesh grills.
FWIW the people at Crutchfield are nice but they kept reccomending 5 1/4 inch speakers and when I did some research they called for a cut out whole of 5 3/4.
If you look at the door panel removal DIY you will see that the speaker area is shrouded with a plastic housing to keep water off the back of the speaker. Again, I am not looking for a weekend project, just a simple mid range replacement that will fit properly.
BTW, If you want real engine sound get out your 4inch hole saw and try out a couple holes in your firewall or put a bluetooth microphone in your airbox..............
Did I tell you that the hole is 4 1/2 inches
