Info required on damaged 1993 RS America
Hi chaps
I'm interested in the car pictured below - Does anybody know the previous owner or any details about the car to help me out?
Just a shame about the interior:
I think that at $18,900 USD this is a very nice price?
Your help will be much appreciated
Regards,
Mark

Lonnie, my gut feeling is that the race seats that were in the car were swapped for a pair of blue comfort seats. It must've been a bitch to get to those seat bolts though

VINny can't tell you about the Recaros though
I just found this on the car from rsamerica.net:
Looks like it was sold and then had an accident

I looked at this car 2 years ago and spoke to the PO. It sounded like a very nice car then before it was wrecked. A shame. My feeling is that here in the US, $18K is all the money in it's current condition. Perhaps in Europe it's a better deal????

Thanks for the comments guys, appreciated
I just spotted the car a few hours ago – It comes at a bad time as myself and Beni have just committed to buying a damaged 993 from a fellow Rennlister in Canada as our next product development car
It was whilst searching for parts for the damaged 993 that I came across this beauty and at the price it’s too good to pass on by! The good news is that I have located a shell close to me in UK for £500 – The same salvage yard has a full 993 front clip also for the 993 project so might as well purchase both and use the good parts from the 964 shell to repair the RSA.
All a bit premature at the moment as I’ve still not had an email or call back from the salvage yard who are selling the car – Just hoping it’s still available as I notice it was listed for sale with them back in November last year but with the way the economy is at present and poor parts availability in the US there is a good chance it still will be.
Obviously I have asked for VIN etc but would love to get in contact with the previous owner who would be able to elaborate on the damage which resulted in a total insurance loss as the car unfortunately has a title attached to it but this is not a problem as the car would be shipped to Switzerland to our tunning shop.
Regarding the interior here is another picture:
If you look closely you can see that like all RSA’s the interior dash, carpet and door cards are in fact black. I’m guessing that the seats were removed and sold separately as we all know they sell for $1.5k USD plus for a good set, a shame all the same.
If we can get the car then it would be put back on the road and used as a product development car. We have far to many projects on the go at the moment including 993 GT2, 968 Turbo RS, 3ltr blue printed 951 so this would really have to sit at the back of the workshop until everything else is finished – Again trusting that the car is still for sale.
As soon as I get some more details I’ll post back.
Best regards,
Mark
P.S. Just as a quick observation – The picture showing the rear looks as if the bumper is FRP! Am I right in saying that a true RSA is PU? I know the center sections are different for the RS but this makes me suspicious that the car might be a clone or previously damaged?
P.P.S. Before you ask “are we mad buying damaged cars and importing them over to Switzerland”, in part yes but with the dollar about 1 for 1 ratio against the Swiss Franc and the fact that this car after repair would be worth about 120k Swiss Franc on the open market then obviously not. Repairs and parts would only cost us about $8 - 12k USD and most of the body work we can do luckily ourselves so makes for a nice investment down the line
Oh yes and that rear GT2 wing would simply have to go!
Also with reference to the previous sales ad on rsamerica.net the current miles are 30563 so at least the last owner had a little fun, well whilst it lasted
DAM that was a lot of P.P.S's

Yes mate I know and thanks for pointing out. I'm sure you will also appreciate that an RS America is very rare over in Europe so fits in well with the collector market or people who would like something a little different.
Essentially both cars share the same shell alu bonnet, mag wheels etc and all that about seam welding is truly a myth again as you will know.
Over in Euro we were offered many more option than the RSA that were officially imported to the US. If you opted for a RS over here with no under seal (a factory option) then a corrosion warranty was only provided for 2-3 years over the 10 I think you guys got. I'm also not sure if the RSA had the same 3mm glass as the Euro - But hell I'm no 964 specialist but have owned a nice LHD maritime blue with factory roll cage many years ago – Still miss it to this day but I used it as a daily so had to go
I think I’m right in saying that Europe got 4 different option RS’s against the US which only had one.

Umm no, you're wrong on just about everything, other than the RSA being rare in Europe. But I'm not going to get into how it's different, because that horse has been beaten to death over and over. I also don't think you will find a robust collector's market in Europe for a previously wrecked, highly modified track RSA.
