Running engine during winter storage

2 ways:

1) Look at the oil temp gauge. The arrow will climb to about 9 o'clock as the engine runs and then drop to about 8 or so. That means the thermostat has opened.

2) Touch the front right fender. If it's warm, there is hot oil in the cooler.

How long should it take to boil of the water in the crankcase?

Just ran mine after about 3 weeks. It took 21 minutes for the temp gauge to peak (at about 8 o'clock) then dropped back to about 7 o'clock (idling with occasional reving to between 2000 to 3000 rpm). Touched the fender.....cold. Ambient temp was -3degC or 27 degF. Total run time 25 minutes.
