After a good deal of dialogue on multiple fronts, and with a bit of suspicion of the real world benefits of kitted coilovers, I'm going to opt for adding SRP custom valved Bilstein HD's (street/track F/R 21 valving) over the current H&R Red's w/ Ruf bars front & rear. It seems likely to be a good compromise for back-road and DE performance. Admittedly some subsequent step may lead to the KW Clubsport coilovers or similar to gain further adjustment capability and a higher spring rate, but at current, and anticipating good results with the custom SRP valved shocks, presupposing full/accurate corner weight/balance AND dialing in the alignment spec to a bit more track friendly setting, I think I can get to a very track friendly "compromise" w/o necessarily going to coilovers on this now 2700 lb car. Added thoughts and comments on bushings and mountings appreciated. The strategic assumption on intended use when in dialogue with Smart Racing Products and my local Tech/Race shop is ~ 50/50 track/road. I'm hesitant to go beyond the rates of the Red's as they seem dead-nuts perfect as a waypoint between road comfort and track control/neutrality. A central assumption here is that it is the equipment in the left seat that needs the most work in the pursuit of better/smoother/faster track work, not the car.

Thanks for all your help guys. Just about to order a set of Bilstein HD's and H & R Greens.

Can any of you guys confirm from the picture, that I have the later rear shock design, before I order them.

Check the HD price on shox.com; $679 for the 4.

I agree, Shox.com has some good prices on Bil HD's.

Cheers

You're not kidding! The prices for a set of shocks I've found at the moment are:

Design911 = £785.79
Porscheshop = £937.25
Type911 = £839.50
Eurocarparts = £558.78 (but no stock)
Berlyn = don't even look at the prices!

We then have to add over £200 to this for H&R springs.

My 1990 C2 rides on Billy HD's with Eibach Pro Kit springs. Very compliant and stable over bumps/around corners. Not too bumpy either. I have my car on the lower end and still rides quite well. Wheels are D90's for reference.

Despite what others have said the turbo is not that much heavier than a C2. My C2 weighed in at 3000 pounds 1/2 tank of gas, roll bar, GT3 sport seats and stock headers with a magnaflow muffler. My turbo weighs 3120 with a little less than 3/4 tank of gas, B&B headers/magnaflow muffler and recaro sportster CS seats. So figure on adding 50-70 pounds or so to each in stock form. This would also vary depending on options.

The H&R reds are actually the same spring they recommend for the RSA. Since the springs from the turbo are essentially the M030 or RSA springs the reds work best for improving this suspension setup.

I have used all three. H&R greens, H&R reds and Eibachs. I like the greens the least as I find them way to soft in general. The eibachs are different than the H&R's, they will become stiffer as the car is lowered more the H&R greens feel similar no matter what height the car is at and IMO too soft. Not sure why this is, might have something to do with how they work with the dampening of the shock, Geoffrey (?)

If you are looking for light duty some spirited driving the eibachs aren't bad still not ideal IMO but closer to stock with lowered ride height than the others. If you want the most out of your car for the street/track at the most economical level the reds are the only option unless you decide you want to commit to full track setup. I have not tried the PSS10's and the cars I have driven with the PSS9's didn't impress me enough for the extra $$, although they are nice not worth 3 times the price of the HD's and reds. I know of a few people that use the H&R sport setup it is a complete package similar to the PSS9/10's costs about the same and from the feedback I have heard are the better choice. For me I like to set and forget it so unless you like to mess with settings I would not recommend either.

So as with any mod you need to decide what works best for your needs.

I'm new with Rennlist and my 964. I'm about to do H&R and Bilstiens. Sould I replace any other parts once I remove the struts?

I'll be changing the wishbone bushes at the same time. You'll find plenty of threads about changing these on this board.
