Leaking Door Seals - upgrade for 964 - Fixed
Guys ,
Thought I would just pass this tip on that I used to fix a tiny water leak on my Right side door seal that I've been working on it for a while now. The bottom of both of the door pockets was also getting wet, as the seals were always wet and the fluff off the pockets just soaked it up into the door cardboard.
I tried new standard 911/964 door seals and it still let in a tiny leak onto the carpet and pockets (and soaked though) after over night rain. I also noticed the seals were not the best designed in my eyes with the drain holes at the bottom of the seal on the inside of the door frame !!
Well after messing around with the Porsche PET catalogue I found the 993 has different door seals to the 964 - but the door size is the same. But the part number is a 964 number! The 993 seals cost 4 times the price of the 964/911 seal though ;-(
Reading about the seals ( as you do ) its made up of different molds ~(unlike the 911 seal which is one mold all the way round). This fix is to help channel the water away. The corners of the seals are internally reinforced so will not collapse and leak like the 911/964 std seal . So perhaps Porsche did fix the old crappy design at some point in its Air cooled life ;-)
Old 911 door seal approx £20 +vat ..so I've perhaps wasted my money,
993 door seal approx £75 +vat !!! but they work - no more water getting in and the pockets are dry.
993 door seals:
964 531 095 00 /L
964 531 096 00 /R
Well worth it .....
