Adrian Streather' s book reports a comparison dyno test in which the stock cover wins on the drilled one....

Thumbs up

I drilled mine for the induction sound after 4000 rpms at wot and not for a claimed gain of 3 bhp...
The sound alone is well worth the mod and if there is a gain in bhp then that's a bonus!

PM is sent. I was debating putting foil tape over the holes to see if I would miss the sound. The primary bypass provides all the sound I need.

I have the fabspeed open airbox on my car and have thought about going back to the stock airbox. My mechanic that rebuilt my engine was of the opinion that it wasn't worth trading a couple of horsepower for increasing the potential to pull dirty air into the engine. I also already have plenty of noise from a cat bypass and a secondary bypass. I doubt I'd notice the reduction in noise from the airbox.

Same here. I use the stock air filter, moved away from the K&N. Also have the cat baypass, and G-pipe... sounds good

I've drilled about seven or eight (I'd have to pull off the cover to confirm the exact number) holes in my airbox cover with a 19mm hole saw. I found that Fuji (no affiliation; LOL) 35mm film canister covers will plug right into the holes made by the hole saw. I also run a K&N filter. When I use the car on the street then most of the holes are plugged and there's no induction roar, which is fine with me. When I do a track day, I just remove the cover, unplug the Fuji caps, and put the cover back in place. Instant intake roar and a few more ponies. Did this mod years back so good luck finding the Fuji caps these days!

You guys still doing this? I remember it made a brilliant difference when accelerating and was planning to do it again.

Any reason not to?
Piers - glad to see you back in the land of the 964ers!!!!!!! No reason not to, go do and enjoy.
