What does ROW mean?

Wow, no Targa's in 94!!! That leaves only 2 years for my search and with very few of those even produced for US consumption. Phew!

So, these ROW cars. Will they pass US standards/regulations? Like for smog here in strict CA? Probably not or there wouldnt be a difference I'm assuming

A few 1994 model year cars drifted in right at the beginning of the model year, probably less than 50. I think they were some late 93 production cars that got flipped. It was not an official 94 model, so very rare.

I know of a white one, if the price is right.

Default Targa: A dumb question

My first post here as I just joined.

I'm on the hunt for an early '90's C4 Coupe(maybe a C2)- my first Porsche.
I drove a stunning, low mileage '83 Targa here in St. Paul a few months back and was tempted but I just do not fancy the look of Targa's. And there's a very nice, low mileage '90 C4 Targa for sale at a local Porsche dealership that looks inviting and I almost went over to look at it today- but it simple didn't beckon me.

Apart from it's unique appearance and beautiful curved rear window, is there something else about these cars I maybe missing?

Thanks,
V

Velodon: Nothing beats roof off cruzing at any speed on a summer evening and the sound of a boxer 3.6 liter just behind you.

+1

I was originally out looking for a coupe myself..but this Targa came at the right price of entry into the Porsche world for me and I could not pass it up nor do I regret it.

I test drove 6 different 911's today. What a fun day! I drove everything from an 87-94. Two 964s had triptronic, one had 5 speed. I liked the triptronic quite a bit. Sure, sports car enthusiasts insist a P must have a manual. I used to feel that way too. But now that I'm older, I appreciate not having to shift all the time. The trip is perfect both for lazy cruising and spirited acceleration. I would love to be able to find a good condition triptronic 911.

I also found out for sure I don't want a cab. It was raining and dew formed on the rear window. With the cab, you cannot defrost the plastic window, making rear visibility impossible. Plus they potentially leak and are much higher maintenance. No thanks to cabs.

The targs squeak and rattle over all the little bumps. Flex is going to happen I know. As these cars get older too, they just rattle more, very annoying. I know there's fixes for these. I hope it can delete all or most of the rattles. I still want a Targa. And yes, it was pleasure cruising with the roof open, hearing the air-cooled engine sing...vroom, vroom....

The 90 I look at was leaking oil like a gusher somewhere. The owner said he didn't know and that his mechanic never told him about it. He'd better get a new mechanic because I noticed the oil within 30 seconds of looking at the engine shield and the top of the case. I'm certainly no P mechanic. I touched my finger to the UNDERSIDE of the engine shield and came up with a dripping finger. Yikes! Can you imagine the TOP of the engine shield! If fish could swim in oil, they be doing backflips up there! Now granted, maybe some of that oil was from spillage during filter removal, but still. Plus the oil on the case and miscellaneous tubes up there. Not a good sign.

Overall if I had to pick two, one would be the 87 with 56k miles. Shifted well, pretty smooth ride, no smoking on start up. But it was RED. I'm just not a Santa-colored kinda guy!

Second, the 94 with triptronic. Rode just a bit more smooth than the 87 and I love the two-mode option of the trip.

The search continues....

holy911,
Good for you -- Great start.
You're miles ahead of most by taking so many rides in some many different cars.
Keep trying 'em till you find your no-compromise car.

Not all. Mine has 66K on it and doesn't do any of that.

The 3.2 Carrera's (especially the G50 transmission ones: '87-'89), are fetching some pretty impressive prices lately. I personally found the added power and other improvements in the 964 more desirable when I was looking. If you decide you want a tip, you should be able to get an especially screamin' deal on one.

Where are you located?
