Are you going to install an RS or normal European rear glass to eliminate the CHMSL square you have remaining?

If you put the RS America badge on the rear IMO the carrera script on the side should go.

Patience, I am still experimenting.

With respect to the rear glass, I am thinking about it. The car will go back to the US with me someday so any Euro mods need to be reversible so I can pass the DOT inspection at that time.

I put the RS glass in my car and it saves ~ 5 pounds.

Does your car have to undergo a DOT inspection on reentry even though it has a USA VIN number?

My friend had a USA Cup in England for a couple of years and imported it back to the USA, I will ask him what he had to do.

I shipped my US-spec TT to England in '05 when we moved there. I shipped it back to the US a few months ago. Getting it registered in NY was the same process as if I'd brought it from CA: a smog check and a state safety inspection. Don't believe that's the same as a DOT inspection, but other states may be different.

Am I the only sap on this highbrow forum who took about ten minutes to figure out that a "CHMSL square" is the frame painted on the inside of the rear window to cover up the mounting of a

Centrally
High
Mounted
Stop
Light ?????

I figured it was a Contra-rotating Helical Multifaceted Sequential Localizer".

.......... but then what do I know?

With the time I spent figuring that out ... perhaps I

Could
Have
Made
Some
Lunch

I checked with my friend who re-imported his USA Carrera Cup back to the USA after is spent a year in England.

His car was totally stock at the time and thus had all the same equipment it originally came to the USA with. The DOT inspected it but he did not recall if it was a simple VIN number check or if the check was a rigorous check of all the equipment items.

In your case, if the DOT just does just a VIN check you are OK, but if they want the USA bumpers, CHMSL and the H5 headlights you car does not appear to have, you may be in trouble there...

bb993TT - Thanks for the info. I will not have to deal with this for a while. I have a lot of the original parts for the car so I'll be in touch once the I need to make a decision.
