The car is hot. I am planning on having a custom widebody made, similar to the RWB one. The guy was asking me if I thought anyone else would be interested in it, and he'll consider having it produced.
That has got to be one of the most perfectly detailed group of amateurs' track cars I've ever seen.
There has been a Lot of fastidious attention to detail on those cars. Every one.
I think my car's state would get a couple wrinkled noses among that lot.
That is pretty amazing. All those nice cars that actually see the track. I was staring at the blue 993 for a bit, but I still like the 964's of that bunch (not to be bias, hah).
Don, I'd like to see the finish product when it's done! Any idea of cost and time?
Guys - if you do a search under " Racecar Project " or search by poster "Geoffrey" you will find the most incredible build up of a 964 widebody race car on RL.
Have you defined your project as a street car or a race car. Jim
Jim, if you are referring to me, this car will be 100% street car. I have my M3 widebody that I race. However, I think the RWB Widebody just looks amazing, and I have to have my car done in a similar fashion.
Don - I was referring to you since you seem to be the one most excited about building a wide body now. Since the original 911 has been around for 42 years guys have been building widebodies forever. They can be made with steel flares added to both front and rear fenders or obviously can be fiberglass/ CF. Geoffrey's project was steel rear flares and fiberglass everything else. Parts are available from Better Bodies, Getty Design, GT Racing, AIR, and others. RL has threads detailing a build, Pelican Parts has many guys who also have posted and allowed others to enjoy their projects by posting progress and asking for support and looking for answers for challenges. I say have fun and enjoy. Please remember this site loves pictures and most members will respond to inquiries. Jim
I've taken a look at most of the guys that are in CA, and none of them have what I want exactly. My BMW widebody is from MA Shaw/Getty Design. However, they don't make flares large enough, or for my 964 in general.
I am also on pelicanparts. I will most likely be making it out of fiberglass, and having them riveted on there, instead of being molded on. I've just have had bad experience with molded on flares. I am sure it can be done to be perfect, but at the same time, I don't mind the rivets.
The guy who's doing all of my body work was asking me if I thought anyone else would be interested in the body parts, instead of just doing a one-off for me. I told him I wasn't sure if most other Porsche guys would be interested in running such a wide/negative offset set of wheels.
I would not think there are all that many guys who want to make a widebody that wide and that there would be a limited market for the extreme widths you are talking about. Most of the guys lusting after a widebody would be happy just with normal width turbo flares added. To make the 10 & 12" wheels have a high price tag, and most race 965 Turbos are able to fit 12 & 10 under normal turbo body panels I do not mean to rain on your parade. Obviously you know what you want, what will make you happy and again I say have fun and keep the pictures flowing. We are here for you. Jim
This is funny that is is coming up right now, because I have been doing some research myself on this group .
here is the web site http://www.rauh-welt.com/
The conversion cost about 18K , but I am not sure what all that includes, because the site is not in English yet.
But I have to agree, I love there cars as well.
