Default Error code 53 Injector valve cylinder 3

Hi all, I just bought a 1990 C2 G class 964. I was checking things out with my Durametric software and got this error code. Is anybody familiar with Error 53 http://www.durametric.com/porsche964faultcodes.aspx and have any idea what I could do?

Car pics to follow.

TIA

Cheers

David

Check the injector at cylinder 3 with a 9V battery. You should hear clicking. If it doesn't click you have a bad injector. If it clicks, it's in the wiring somewhere. Do the same test with the 9V battery by connecting it to the 55 pin (I think it was 55 pins) harness coming out of the DME. If the injector clicks, there is an issue with the DME. If it doesn't click it's the wiring.

Have you done any work on the interior of the car that may have affected the wiring harness?

Thanks ilko, very helpful.

Now you will have to excuse my complete ignorance but how do I check cylynder 3 with a 9v battery? Do I need to connect wires to a 9v? Then where abouts do I connect them?
Cheers

First let me ask you, do you have the CEL constantly on or is it intermittent?

To check the injector you will need to disconnect the power supply to the injector. Remove the clip-on connector with a flat head screwdriver and be careful not to lose the metal clip. Then wire a 9V battery to the terminals of the injector. I use this, you can get it at Radio Shack:

I have a whole package of those so if you want I can send you one, just PM me your mailing address.

If you hear clicking from the injector after you run the current, it means that it's working. If not, then you've found your problem. Injectors can be rebuilt or you can buy a new one for $160 IIRC.

Now, if the injector works fine, check the wiring. Unplug the 55-pin harness to the DME. Find pins 14 or 19 (ground - either one will work) and 15 (ti signal, cylinder 3). Connect the 9V battery to those 2 pins. If the injector clicks, there is a problem with your DME. If it doesn't click, the wiring is severed somewhere. Carefully insect the harness going from the DME to the engine bay, most likely you have a problem there.

Let us know how it goes.

Good luck

Whaa? Injector's connector is a simple finger-squeeze connections.
Squeeze metal wire hoop n' wiggle! lol plug comes off!

#3 cylinder is left side, most forward.

(#1 is left, rearmost. #4, right, rearmost.)

And it will be a leeettle, teeny, tiny click.
Best to do this in a closed garage, than outside where normal ambient noise can completely mask it.

Search under my name and 'refurbish'. Some injector pics there.

Best of luck.
