Default Wow - it has arrived!

Today my new carbon fibre front hood finally arrived in my friends container from the US. It's from Getty Design and I'm very happy with the finish and the quality. Some black paint, a RS pop rod and some hood pins...and it will look really good! the weight is just 4,6 kg instead of 16 kg so that's a nice save

It looks great! I've been thinking about getting a CF hood for my black '91 C2 cab. Please post some up-close pics of the matting and the finish on the edges and the underside, and with it on the car. Thanks!

The hood looks great! How much weight does it save?

A local RSA owner has a CF hood. In place of a metal badge, he used a sticker under the clear coat. Additionally, he cut out the black portion of the badge sticker so if you look close you can see the CF weave. It looks really nice, yet subtle.

Yes I will post some more pics, but I can say that the hood is a "copy" of the steel hood regarding how it looks/shape. All the inserts are well done. If you paint both sides it will look like stock at a glance.

The finish is good enough for not painting it. But the some of the edges are sanded now because Getty new I would paint it. The hoods are actually done on demand so I told them what I wanted then it took two weeks beofre it arrived at my friends house.

Yeah Christer, it's the wrong end but I want to keep the CUP-style so the rear deck lid has to stay. You could probably save 1-2 kg to replace the steel lid an move the wing to a CF deck lid. But I'm always on a budget so this was the most "bang for the $$$".

ThomasC2 - Would you mind sharing the following?

- How much (in US$) did the hood cost you with shipping?

- Did you have the option of using standard latch hardware as found on the steel / aluminum 964 hoods?

- Any photos of the finished product! I'm keen to see/know if GD's CF hoods have warping or general fitment issues.

Thanks in advance!

1 As said, pics will come later!

2 The hood is 699 USD and shipping from Getty to Chicago was 175 USD and that's it. Then the ride to Sweden was for free because my friend who was moving back to Sweden brought a container, so no VAT either. So for me this ended up with a 50% discount compared to buy one in Europe due to this, and a week dollar.

3 There is strong inserts for the hinges and the stock latch. So if you want the standard look, just paint it, move the latch and switch hoods and you're ready to go!

Love the carbon look.
Do you think it might be 2 much unpainted on a white car?

Thomas,

Good to hear of the quality. Will be interested to hear your thoughts as to how well it seals out moisture.

Does it have to be painted or can it be left bare?
