Default Cab Top controller

I have been having intermittent issues with the left and right cab top latch motors not working at times. Sometimes it is the left one and at other times it is the right. They will stop working and then start again. I have heard about cold solder joints that need to be re-soldered in the cab top control module.

Where is the Cab top control module located ?

Thanks for your help
John

On a RHD car it's up behind the glovebox.

Hi John,

I wrote up the procedure several years back when I had problems with my 993 top. I don't know for sure if the controller in the 964 is in the same location as the 993. It's location in the 993 is above the clutch pedal under the dash. There is a small metal box sitting below the top controller sort of hiding it. Several people have successfully performed the fix.

Good luck,

Shawn

I leave my top down on the car 99.9% of the time, so I rarely actually put it up and down. Been doing it manually since I got it, just use the locking mechanism. But now nothing happens when I push the button. Usually I hear the motors in the back and the latch motors do their thing and I'm happy. Since it is now silent, I checked the fuse, good. Pulled the switch out, cleaned replaced, its okay.... I guess this controller is my next step, is there a way to test it? How big is this box? A part number so I can find what it looks like.

Mike,

There is a good picture of the control unit in this thread. https://rennlist.com/forums/964-foru...ease-help.html

In my car, you have to remove another control unit to reach the cabrio control box. They are stacked on top of each other, bolted to the underside of the dash/firewall. Sorry, I don't have my cab with me today and I don't remember what the other unit does. I think its silver. The cabrio unit is about the size of a pack of cigarettes but flatter.

Good luck on the repair
