Default bicycle on back seat...

Hi, very strange question. Can you fit a bicycle in the back seat of a 911?
I ask as i am looking at buying a 964, but i will need to transport a adults race bicycle regularly(once a week). Regarding the bicycle, I can remove both wheels, and even the saddle and post with ease, but i just need to know if it is possible to get it through the doors. I could always use roof racks, but they look kind of wrong.

If i cant fit the bike in it might mean i need to look at something diffeent....or give up road racing..

Many thanks

Ben

Yes it can be done. I do it with some regularity. Only the wheels need to be removed, but you have to lay the passenger seat all the way down and the bike will fit. There is no room left over but it is better than having it on the roof.

Ben,

I don't think it wouldn't be a problem if you take both wheels off. I have not put one in the back of mine, but have in several other cars.

I used to have a customer bring a road bike in the back of his 993 turbo every time he dropped it off. Just put a heavy blanket down first to keep marks off the seats.

A rack will be much easier. The 911/964 has roof gutters so attaching a rack is a snap. Putting a bike in the back is tight and one scare of a pedal or one greasy chain will do more damage than what a rack will cost. I use a rack all the time, and on a 911 you do not even notice it. It is low, so easier to load than most. The wind noise is not even a problem since a 964 is loud in the first place.

If you get in a wreck with a bike behind you, the outcome (for you) will not be so good!

Yakima and Thule both sell rail kits so that is the best way to go.

Get a rack! Its easier and safer. I had a Yakima gutter rack and front wheel mount bike rack. Remove the front wheel and and get a front wheel carrier. Total cost around $200. Putting a bike back there is asking for rips and scratches.

You get some strange looks with a bike up there, but trust me, its safer and easier. I have a fairing as well, it cuts down on the wind noise.

Cheers

Once you have a 964, you won't need a bike!
Slippery slope though with "upgrades"

Why use the back seat?

Does anyone else have problems attaching or inserting images or am I just plain dumb? (no need to answer the second part of the question)

I fit a 63cm road bike in the back seat of my 964 once after removing only the front wheel. I covered it up with some blankets to keep from getting grease stains everywhere. But it's not very convenient and if I had to do it once a week I'd just get a rack.

See my thread here:
https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...t=bike+carrier
The carrier mounts and dismounts in seconds, does not touch the car except for one rubberized hook over the engine cover (it clears the spoiler) and nothing to show but the little "bobtail" when it is not in use.
Don't give up the bike -- I think it's cool to show up at rides and races in a Porsche with your bike on a carrier!

I used to put a bike rack on my 964 fairly often when it was my only car. To keep the attachements points from scratching. I just put down a couple of patches of the 3m rock chip protection were the rack attaches on the roof and around the rain gutters.
