My first DE...um... too :-) (Little long)
Just got back from 3 days at Beaverun (www.beaverun.com). What a great experience. I was there on Friday for what they call "Flat Out Friday". It is a one day HPDE. Saturday and Sunday was a HPDE with the local PCA chapter (ARPCA).
Man... 3 days is a lot. I am whipped!
A lot of cars where there too. The Flat Out Day was not as organized as the PCA event, but still a blast and well put together. Good instruction and I learned a ton at both. I will definately be doing this again... just not sure I want to keep using my current car. Man is it hard on tires!
Car held up wonderfully. No issues at all.
A couple of comments...
Stock brakes are fine (as you will read in this forum). By the end of the weekend I was getting fairly fast, and they were holding up fine. Once you learn to brake properly, you will not heat them up as much. First day I smelled them a lot, very little on the 2nd day and none at all on the 3rd.
May try something a little better the next time though.
I ran my Kuhmo Ecsta SPT tires. They will work fine for me for a while (if they last ).
The biggest thing of all... go in with the attitude that you know very little (if anything) about high performance driving. You will learn a lot and be better for it. I though I was an ok driver... it took me three days to get just ok. (and I am not sure I am even ok yet.) There were some fantastic drivers there. Also some very good instructors. I happen to think I had one of the better ones.
Wow, what a blast!... and all kinds of cars... from a Lamborghini Gallardo, Panoz GTS, and GT3RS, to VW Golfs and an AC Cobra (and of course LOTS of Porsche's). I would guess 70+ cars.
(Me apexing at turn 2 ... can't wait to do it again!!!)
