The 5 Brake Light Mod...
#31
The socket needs some trimming for everything to fit right.
I'll try and post some pics...
If it doesn't work I'll get in touch with ILKO and send him the pics for his DIY.
It makes the brake lights 100% more visible, A MUST DO mod!

The email from Dwane:
[The first image] is the universal socket. It is a 2 piece construction and the back comes off. I couldn't find the 2 wire setup, so I removed the blinker wire from the 3 wire socket. Cut off the 3 locking ears from the socket with cutters and finished with a dremel tool. Installed without gasket(clearance purposes)used silicone to create the seal. **IMPORTANT**The base of the socket has a lip, that has to be filled down about a 1/8", for clearance purposes. I used a 1" hole saw to make holes in lense.
If anyone has problems sourcing the sockets, I can pick them up and ship them. I will do it at cost.
(pay it forward)

Thanks for the photos and clarification. I'll hunt down the parts locally if I can. I appreciate the offer to source them. I may take you up on it if I get stumped here.
BTW Dwane, nice granite counter. I had the same one in my previous home.

Why are there two brown leads into the left-side brake light
This-is-the-mod-of-the-week and I have everything ready but can't figure why the wiring is this way. NEED HELP.
I am putting in the 4th/5th brake lights and have kicked it up a bit with this, too: http://www.kahtec.com/smart_stop.htm
I assume the white/brown (or is it white/red) is the power and brown in the ground;but why are there two browns into the left-side brake light? Does it matter which one is selected as the tap-into-wire? Any help greatly appreciated.

Those blinking lights are a cool idea. Maybe a bit of an overkill in our case since we're overpowering the opposition with 5 lights already
What kind of car are you installing this on? The photos of the lights don't look like a 964. Is it an earlier 911?
I used the BLUE/BROWN and the BLACK from the driver side tail light on the 964.
But since you're using a different car you may have to do a quick test by tapping into the wires with a volt meter and hitting the brake pedal to see which ones are the lights for your application.
Hope this helps!

I drove behind "The Stig" yesterday after he completed the "Five Light" mod. TOTAL visibility from behind. There is NO missing that car as it stops now. MUCH safer - an excellent upgrade.

Thanks Ilko for resurrecting this mod. I misspoke on the original post. Meant BU light, but the question was still lame. I didn't relize that the second ground on the BU light is just a return. I wasn't sure if it mattered where I tapped into the ground. I ran the power from the right rear brake light and used a speed-tap to the primary BU light ground. That way I only had to run one wire from the brake light. Nice mod, as it really lights up the rear. Thanks to everyone who has done this and posted help. Specifically, the 3 phillips screws would have been perplexing 'cause of their length, and using a Brake Light socket #85881 saved experimenting. I used silicone glue for the socket. It breaks loose easily if the bulb has to be replaced.
Really easy mod, and great ROI.

Sorry, I can't find the 'How To' Section. I'm sure its very obvious but being a tad 'thick' I'm having a hard time navigating, any chance of a link?
Cheers!

No rear fogs in the US/Can cars. But if you're interested in using this mod with your rear fogs, it's an easy wiring job, all it requires is a couple of diodes.
