Until reading this thread I didn't know there was an original 964 high level light available (we don't have them on our Euro 964s). But having now found all the parts on PET, I wonder whether it would be easy to retro fit one. Is it glued to window? Has anyone done this mod?

Steve,

Most of us here in the US who have the 3rd brake light on the rear windshield hate its location. It really messes up your line of sight and you can't see traffic behind you on the highway, such as cops trying to catch up with you... Just my ¢02.

the 993 thrid brake light will fit and fits to the outside of the rear window and acts as a mini- spoiler
(not near pet right now so no part #s)
there is a basket handle one (most hate it) and the roof mounted one from 96 on.

I added the the 993 light at the top edge after I removed the rear windshield and replaced with a Euro version without the CHMSL. I also added the rear fog light switch and the rear fog lights much like the addition of the the brake lights.

The price of the euro glass is well worth getting rid of the CHMSL.

also added the relay for daytime running lights, I want people to see me coming all the time

Thanks for your thoughts on the 3rd brake light. I'd heard of similar issues with the 993 spoiler version (but perhaps not quite as restrictive on rear vision as the 964 one sounds like it is). It makes a change to be taking a mod off the list rather than adding stuff to it!

I cannot even see the added brake light when I am driving. I only know it is there when I step on the brake and see red in the rear windshield.

I live in San Jose, CA.

The window is 964 545 107 06 with hole for wiper which I ordered at $700 from my local Porsche dealer, list was $840. Thye were very nice to give me a great deal on it.

pn for euro window without wiper is 964 545 107 04 dealer list is now $910 RS version is 964 545 107 08

you should double check pn with you dealer.

Ilko:

Thanks for the write-up. I'm eager to give this a try. Where did you get the reverse light harness? Is it a Porsche part (if so do you have the part number) or is a universal harness I can pick up any old place?

Thanks.

I used the harness from an old center reflector but I think you could make your own. You'll just need to source out the bulb sockets.
