Correct Bilstein HDs for a 1990 C2
Hi all.
I've just purchased a 1990 (89 build) C2 manual. Love it already! However the previous owner fitted unknown lowering springs with the stock Boges and the car is suffering from worn shocks and an unrealistic ride height. After much reading on this wealth of wisdom forum I have decide to go down the Bilstein/Eibach route. However my mechanic warned me that the top mount for the rear strut changed from 1991 and the 89-90 models require a specific Bilstein strut.
I have a quote from a supplier and wanted to ask anyone in the know if these part numbers for Billy HDs correspond with the parts I need? Im in Australia and it will be a long way to ship them back!
BILSTEIN HDs
Front VE3-5277-H1,VE3-5278-H1,
Rear B46-1735
EIBACH - Pro Kit Springs 7201.140
any help greatly appreciated (as are stories of how FANTASTIC this upgrade will be).

I cannot confirm the actual part numbers. I had these on my car for a while before switching to PSS9s. Try contacting Bilstein directly 800-537-1085. Hopefully they can confirm for you.

Hope this helps a little.
Oh, and as for ride and handling I really like it but...as always a but, the PO lowered the front ride height too much when installing which will screw up the bump steer with out spending a lot more money on uprights. So, the alignment and ride height must be set up correctly which I think is the RSA specs. I am sure someone else can chime in here but lets just say that if you slam the car down as low as it will go the geometry will get really bad.

Yes there was a kit that I used to modify the PSS9s to work. Actually I used the PSS9 kit for the 993 since they were more readily available and at better pricing. The setup is great. I can do so much more and have total flexibility over ride height which was one thing I did not like about the HDs. Ride is somewhat better and the handling and balance is so much better that the two cannot be compared. I only wish I had just done this from the beginning.

Andial has Bilstein HD's on clearance for $105 each. I was going to get them since I have a pair of front struts I picked up all ready. Don't know how great a price that is, but it's a start.
