well, if it's not one thing it's another. We took the car for a drive to a local Saturday night car show, and had the top up on the way there. It was Meg's first drive to a car show in the P-car. We were going to go top down on the way home (preserved Stacey's hair on the way there) when the freakin top wouldn't go down. I tried a few times, to no avail. I got the car on level ground, but still the same. Now all I hear is the passenger side motor spinning with no activity on the locking mechanism or the cable. I don't have time for this $hit
Other than that, not much going on. I still have to replace the o2 sensor from our trip to Parade.
Don't loose hope, I had the same exact thing happen to me last week.
Does one side of your top unlock ?
I had one side work but not the other. I was able to pull the covering down just enough to get a electric screwdriver on to the back of the locking motor (it was impossiable to figure out if the screwdriver was lining up with the back of the locking motor) without pulling the covering off) I was then able to unlock the side that was not working.
After getting the top down I took the cover off completely and was able to test the locking motors. I was able to unplug the wiring going to the bad motor and plug in the wiring that goes to the good motor to the bad motor and test to see if it was a electrical problem or if it was a broken gear in the motor.
I got very lucky and my motor did work, I think I had a loose connector or something because when I put everything back together again both worked.
so don't loose hope until you narrow down your issue
I never put mine back up! I figure if someone wants to steal something atleast they wont have to cut the top to do it. Thats rthe great thing about living in Florida
Looks like my car is a total loss from the accident. Submitting an independent appraisal today as insurance valuation is sickeningly low. Please cross your fingers, I need to be back in a 964 as soon as possible!
Geoff - at least you didn't tear the roof. Spoke to someone yesterday that had only one motor fail on their cab roof and they ripped the roof and bent some metal..ouch!

You should have gotten a TIP as the blue book value is higher then a 6 speed
Good luck and hope you get a good settlement.

Haha! Thanks Jim! (actually my next car may well be a tip cab!)
Actually they don't use blue book but rather do an appraisal taking into account condition of the car plus comparables based on vehicles currently on the market. Whats funny is that their valuation only uses 3 comps and they must be the cheapest, rattiest cars out there. I decided to retain a private appraiser and fight for what the car is really worth. My appraiser has listed about a dozen cars and takes into account the money poured into the car.
