Default Weekend projects

As weekend projects go, this one went pretty well even though I won't see the final results til tomorrow afternoon.

Finally was home long enough to R&R the shocks and springs on the C4. Installed Bilstein HDs and HR Turbo Reds. Front passenger side brake line got jabowockied and that stalled the project, but that was the only real glitch. Well, that and the fact that Hoerr Racing sent the wrong Goodridge SS/Teflon brake lines.

Went ahead and flushed the brakes, pressure accumulator, valve body and clutch slave with ATE Blue. Motif pressure bleeders are worth their weight in gold on a job like this. I used a combination of Streathers bible and a factory manual for the bleeding procedures. With 11 bleed points on a C4, not including the interlocks, one needs to keep track of the sequence and the procedure.

The car is up on stands and the wheels go back on tomorrow afternoon. The cold beer is ready for the celebration when everything works and the vodka is ready in case it doesn't !

Thanks to all the great folks on Rennlist for all the helpful pointers I found in the searches before I bought the first part.

Cool, Lynn. Sounds like a busy "weekend".

Time to hit the peaks again next time you're this way.

Hi Steve,

Yup, it was a project. Trying to get ready for that first DE. I couldn't stand the SUV look so I think I have that solved. I have some 5mm wheel spacers and steel lug nuts coming. I'm looking into taking off the almost new 205s and installing 225s on the front. That should help the push a little. I'm looking for an adjustable TRG rear sway. Between the new springs, tires and rear bar, the car should start edging neutral.

Alignment and corner balance is next once I get it back on the ground and confirm the brake system is all sorted out. I used Soul Speed for my bimmer alignments, are there any Porsche alignment specialists in Austin? I think I want to try the RS specs.

How's that track car working out?

'jabowockied' just went into my porsche/rennlist vocabulary -- right beside '***-engined **** slotcar'.

My oil pressure xducer seal might be jabowockied. (Damned ***-engined **** slotcar.)

Hi Lynn, call David Moore at Moorespeed for the alignment and corner balance. http://www.moorespeed.com/

The SC is making steady progress. Hoping to have it ready by fall. Look forward to seeing you out there.

Default Alignment and CB

Hey David, thanks for the recommendation on Moorespeed. If I tell David you sent me will I:

a) Get a discount

b) Get charged double

c) Get thrown out on my ear

d) Get a cold brewski while I wait

Probably none of the above except, maybe c). But you will get to peruse his garage and see many vintage RSR's, Toad Hall cars, and the like. I once got to sniff over a LeMans winning RSK and an F40 there. It's always something new and exciting. It's a fun place to visit. He just put in a dyno too. Don't forget to say hi to Ranger for me while you're there. Give him a call beforehand, he gets pretty busy.

Lynn,

It has taken me about 2 years (and I'm not quite there yet) but I almost have the handling of my car where I like it for track work:

H&R progressive coil-overs (soon to be JIC linears)
TRG 25 mm front at second from softest setting
TRG 23 mm rear at stiffest setting
255/17 MPSC tires rear at 38 psi on 8.5/50 rims with 9 mm spacers
225/17 MPSC tires front at 36 psi on 7/55 rims with 5 mm spacers
(longer studs front/rear with steel lug nuts)
and RS alignment except height 15 mm higher d/t rough roads locally

Let us know how the new suspension feels.

Default suspension

Marc,

Tires are on, car is off the stands and settling. Had company this evening so could take it for a short drive to see where the ride height settled. I'm thinking of RS+10. That will have to wait til morning. Brake pedal felt good and I didn't get any warning lights screaming I screwed up on the static test. Road test tomorrow AM and confirm brakes.

I was told the steel nuts would have several threads exposed after tightening using the 5mm spacers so I did not order new studs. Will see.

If everything I read is accurate, I will need a bigger rear bar. I plan on going adjustable TRG. Anyone else with suggestions, I'm open. I'll let you know how things work out and send pics. Alignment and corner balance next week if all goes well.

Lynn,

With 5 mm spacers you should be okay on thread but using the open nuts to check is a good idea.

With 225 tires on the front, you might need spacers if you drive hard to prevent rubbing.

Looking forwards to the pics.
