Default Cup I Wheels

Did cup I wheels come in 7" and 8" stagger from the factory? Any information on Cup I would be appreciated including how 7 and 8 would work for track use.

BTW, when I try to search Cup I, I get an error message that (I) is below the two letter minimum and will not be searched. What is the fix?

TIA

RS Americas came with 7 & 8 Cup I's. I have 205/50/17 in the front and 255/40/17 tires in the rear, the car feels fine at the track with slight understeer. I'll move to 225/45/17 in the front when changing tires next time and expect the understeer to be gone.

'92 Turbos came with 7 & 9 Cup I's. I've seen people mount 275/35/17 tires in the rear of a 9" wheel. The best solution IMO is 8s in the front and 9s in the rear. I already have one 9" Cup I, looking for a second one now...

The search function unfortunately doesn't let you use anything under 3 letters so maybe you can try "cup wheel" or "cup wheels" or some other creative solution

Hope this helps.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that aftermarket replica Cup I's come in 7.5 & 9 config and lower offsets. Some people caution against using replica wheels at the track while others have had no issues.

Offsets for the Mille Miglia's are 52 front/47 rear, which is close to ideal. Primary drawbacks is the weight--they're a few pounds heavier. Strength vs Factory is comparable, i.e. there have been incidents of both versions diplaying cracks due to track use.

That is not true, they weigh the same!

For me, my front OEM wheels with Falken Azenas were 3 pounds lighter than my Mille Miglia with Toyo Proxes. For the rear wheels, the weights were the same for both the OEM and Mille Miglias. YMMV.

I guess they're approximately the same but not quite.

Factory
7 x 17, 20.5 lbs
8 x 17, 25.5 lbs
9 x 17, 26.0 lbs

Mille Miglia
7.5 x 17, 24.0 lbs
9 x 17, 26.0 lbs

mkd944- Your assessment is right on the money.

So no real issues with the lower 52 mm offset vs the OEM 55 mm (fronts)? The 52 mm would move the rim and tire more to the outside? No tire to fender rub issues?

There are no issues running the aftermarket wheels on a 964 either at stock ride hight or lowered to RS ride height. The offset is actually a little better than stock. Nor do the wheels bend easier than the OEM, or crack any faster than the OEMs, or anything. They are made by OZ Wheels in Italy and are TUV approved.

Did the Mille Miglia replicas come in any sizes OTHER than 7.5" front and 9" rear? Any 7" or 8", for example?

Nader,

my rsa has 17x7 et 55 fronts and 17x8 et 52 rears. i don't use these for track wheels much anymore, but when i did, i was able to run 235/255 toyo ra1s with no rubbing. however, for the money, I think the 993 cup style wheels are the way to go. to me the 993 cup feels lighter when I am loading them into the car compared to the cup 1 wheels.. anywyas, 17x7 et 55 and 17x9 et 55 are the 993 size and they work great. before i added spacers and longer wheel studs, i was able to run 205/255 mpscs on these wheels with little to no issues. however, with spacers and longer wheel studs in the back, I run 245/275 hoosiers on the 993 cup wheels. i have made no change to the wheel studs up front. hope that helps ya!

LPM911,

I'm in the process of fitting spacers to the rear (Cup I - 17 x 9 et 55 ) of my '89 C4. Out of curiosity, what size spacer & studs did you find worked best on your 275 rears with 17 x 9 et 55 ? What amount of rear camber are you running ? I'm assuming you are running RS ride height for the track.

Thanks in advance.

Out of town at the moment, but if my memory serves me correctly...

Stock wheel studs are 52mm. I replaced my rear wheel studs with 67mm and I've been using ~10mm of spacer. Now that I think about it, I did replace the front wheel studs with 55mm but I don't use a spacer to run 245 up front.

Not exactly sure of my camber, but I think its -2. I've got euro RS street suspension (same as street USA cup car). Now that adjustable camber plates are legal in PCA stock classes, I might need to redo my suspension. The factory monoballs were not adjustable, which is what I have. Hope that helps!
