Default Octane - silly question

Hi folks,
My owner's manual states 91 ron+mon/2 (US rating) octane is required, although from reading through threads on here it sounds like some have experienced pinging with this rating.

Is the consensus to just run 93? I'm a firm believer in not wasting money on high octane for an engine that doesn't need, but if these motors verge on pinging then I have no problem shelling out the extra nickel per gallon.

Cheers!

My C4 hates 91 Ron, loves 95.
I had a thread this week where my wife filled up with regular instead of premium... car is down on power, not smooth on delivery.

91 is the best we can get in Oregon. Mine is okay now that its back to a stock intake and AFM. The Autothority caused problems.

With stock programming and the engine in stock configuration, 91 R+M/2 octane fuel (US Fuel) is fine.
