pass on this one

this would be the cab twin to my coupe. So I called the guy named MO in the ad, but the first number is incorrect and I get a real nice elderly man at his home. Call the second number and Mo is the shop who has done all the work on the car.
It had the oil line from engine to filter replaced, and the engine resealed. Resealed meant they replaced the gaskets, but unclear whether that meant they took the heads off or just replaced the sealing washers on the oil fittings and they did not do a valve job. I asked when was the last time the valves were adjusted and he said " I think those cars have hydraulic valves".
I said thank you and ended the call.

Steve, no offense intended, but the 993 does have hydraulic lifters. It also has two oil filters and I was told that the reason for the second filter is to give extra protection for the hydraulic lifters.
I did a quick google and, oddly enough, the best link I found was this one at HowStuffWorks.
Pretty good summary of the major engine differences between our 3.6 and the 993 3.6.
I agree that it would make me a little uncomfortable if my mechanic started any comment about the basic features of the engine with the phrase "I think." I would be more comfortable with a confident "this I know..."

The 3.6-liter engine was treated to a lower-mass valvetrain; hydraulic lifters requiring no periodic lash adjustment; lighter pistons and conrods; a stiffer crankshaft (still with eight main bearings) that eliminated the need for a weighty harmonic damper; a quieter new low-pressure exhaust system with twin catalysts and mufflers; and Bosch's latest Motronic 2.10 engine-management system with a hot-film air-mass sensor (replacing a less precise hot-wire type).

here's the listing
1992 PORSCHE 911 CARRERA C2 CAB 147000 MILES, FOR SALE $16,000 O.B.O 1 OWNER VEHICLE VERY WELL MAINTAINED, EXCELLENT RUNNING CONDITION,MANUAL TRANSMISSION, WHITE WITH NAVY BLUE INTERIOR. FOR MORE INFORMATION PLEASE CALL 949-499-2117 OR 949-338-8212 ASK FOR MO
if it was very well maintained by Mo he would know that a 92 does not have hydraulic valve lifters, so either he really is not the shop that did all the work or if he is, they do not know Porsches.
