Oil pressure gauge faulty?
Under load my 993RS gauge always reads highest number ie 5. On 964 under load it reads either 4 or 5, it doesn't wander between it is either one or other. Why is this? Problem?
Thanks

Could be the sender , could be the gauge .
The sender is a variable resistor , so if you substitute in a decade box or a ten turn , you can watch the gauge swing .
Could be the oil pressure also .

+1 - Can you give us more background? How long has this been happening? Has there been any recent changes to the car around the time it began? You may want to verify that you have good voltage coming out of the alternator. Resistance gauges are sensitive to low voltages.

lots of threads on this, here is one : https://rennlist.com/forums/showthre...l+pressure+993
Mine reads 5 under load, guess the senders are not very accurate.
Sounds like your gauge might be failing if the needle jumps from 4-5 with nothing in between.
Best regards

The PO had top-end rebuild done 1000 miles before I bought it and then (I think) he overfilled on oil change the day before I bought it by about 1 litre.
Could this be related?
