Gauge restoration
I just bought another RS America and noticed when I drove it tonight that the speedometer face seems to have decomposed and is porous now so the back light is coming through all over the place. I'd like to get that repaired, but I have no idea if I can do it myself or if there are companies who do this. Can I order a replacement OEM gauge face or can anyone recommend a place to send the speedo for a repair? Are there any legal implications of removing the speedo for a repair? I assume the car should not be driven with the speedo out....

Note that if you send them multiple gauges you can "negotiate" a better price...

I had the same problem with mine (I think it's a manufacturing defect). I decided to have all of them redone in white by North Hollywood Speedometer. My mechanic popped them out, sent them to NHS by Fed-Ex, and they were back within the week. The cost was around $400 for all 5 gauges (this was around 5 years ago).
No legal implications with removing the speedometer/odometer as long as the odometer isn't tampered with (and I very much doubt that NHS would agree to change the odometer reading, even if you asked them to). No seal is broken by merely removing the gauge and it isn't computerized, so there is no record of it having been removed.
If you remove the gauges yourself, make sure you don't turn on the ignition while they're out as doing so will trigger a seatbelt/airbag error light in the clock that you will need the Bosch Hammer to put out.
Here are some pics of my gauges:

Another recommendation for North Hollywood Speedo...they sent me replacement glass for one of my gauges for $20 or so. Their major competitor wanted $100 for the replacement, and I had to ship the gauge off to them for the work.

NHS is the only place to go....talk to Kevin there....I've done about 6-7 sets of guages with them and they are excellent.
A full set of guages costs roughly $1,200.....and that includes inspection and servicing as well as new faces.
