I think the last time I went, I just upgraded my RAC policy to include European cover (they don't care about the age of the car then).

Try ADAC, based in Germany. You have to read German to book but it's cheaper than most uk companies, cover any age car and the repatriate you rather than towing to the nearest garage.

I have ADAC cover. The website is German, but the application is in English. They cover the whole of europe.

I have Euro-wide cover for me and my partner, including 'homestart' and recovery. This is also valid in the UK so I no longer need to be a member of AA/RAC. It is also ALOT cheaper than UK AA cover alone. Any breakdowns which happen abroad and cannot be repaired will result in repatriation to the UK.

In fact, if you call the UK emergency number on the back of the card you are connected straight to the AA who are their UK agent.

There is always an English speaking telesales person available if you need to speak to them.

If you need help finding the application form on their website let me know.

AA will do a one off quote.... was offered 4 day cover for a lemans weekend trip at about 55 quid as existing AA member. Hagerty are also expecting to bring out a European wide annual policy for our cars sometime soon for about £60... see rich, they'll have more commission to offer you soon..

Thinking back to Silverstone Classic last year, they gave me quite a cheap baseball cap and a pen. I guess that's my commission?

English application info here...

ADAC in English

ADAC Plus Membership covers you worldwide.

ADAC Partner Plus covers you and your partner worldwide.

When I filled-in the form I had to write my credit card number, expiry date and 'last three digits' security number along the top as I don't have a German Bank Account. My cards came within 3 weeks, and I also receive a glossy magazine every month which has pretty pictures and all German text. Keep the plastic card with you, and the small yellow book in the car (on the back it has the numbers to call for the country you are driving in.)

If there are any German words or phrases on the site which you need to translate, you can use an online translator such as http://babelfish.altavista.com/ or you can translate the whole webpage by copying and pasting the url into babelfish. It works well but sometimes translates things in an odd way.
