Default Screw Sizes

Hi

I want to replace some screws on the 964 with s/s ones but how do I work out the sizes from the pet.

The length I've got but the place I'm buying from lists sizes as no 6 - no 10. The pet lists as B4,2 + B4,8.

Anyone know what size they are?

Thanks

Rob

They are "2 different animals". The place you're planning to buy from are British thread and the ones on the PET are metric. Porsche uses all metric fasteners. There's a risk of gulling using a dissimilar metals (e.g stainless steel fastener with aluminum (i.e engine)) .

Hope this helps

Which fasteners?
An example of a metric fasteners size is: M6 x 1.0 x 12 (6mm diameter by 1.0mm pitch by 12mm long)
One easy way to find out, is purchase a thread gauge, or just go to a local hardware store with some of the different sizes you want to replace, and match them up.

Hey Rob good luck those are hard to find, i found a fastener store in my hometown that carried about every screw known to man and i only found a couple of those to match up. I wish i could remember what the 4,2 and 4,8 stood for because i had that info for a while but im pretty sure its 4.2 mm and 4.8mm i think germans use commas for periods. I ended up just matching my screws to ones they had and they worked fine. Sounds like your trying to match all the screws in the wheel wells.

There the ones Jerry, and the ones that hold the spoiler under the front bumper.

I think I may order a bag of each and some new speed nuts (in stainless) and hope for the best.

Thanks for the help all

Rob, don't discount ordering them from an OPC. I needed some of the plastic 10 mm nuts for the plastic sills and got a bag of 10 from them for less than £1

Don't replace any load bearing or safetyrelated bolt like suspension bits, brake bits, or seatbelt bits with stainless as in many cases the OE bolts are Grade 8.8 or higher strength. Stainless are not as strong and could represent a danger.
