I use car every day. ABS warning light came on once last week once and again this morning. But when I turned car off and then started it again it did not come on again? I'll speak to specialist but wondered if anyone had any thoughts on this? Car is 1990 C2.
Thanks in advance.

Reason: spelling!
Yes, it should be on the driver's side - right in case of RHD, vice versa for LHD.
Most things are the same between 964 and 993 - except those funny headlights (!!) and a few things on the heating and rear suspension. I'll run for cover now!!!
Mine would come on when I started the car and then go off by itself just after I drove off. The problem disappeared around the time I fitted a new battery. This supports Dave's theory of the low voltage possibility.
However, I can't be 100% certain this cured the problem by itself as shortly after that I removed and cleaned all the wheel speed sensors to resolve an issue of the ABS only working intermittently.
You could try cleaning all the earth contacts under the bonnet around the front of the car.
Also remove the abs ecu plug and check for signs of water ingress and corrosion. Get a piece of emery cloth and wipe the contacts over once or twice before refitting.
This is either going to be an easy fix or an expensive one.....guess which one I have!!
The next time the problem presents itself try reving the engine in neutral and see if the light turns off when the engine hits something close to 3500 RPM give or take a few hundred RPM. If it does, this is an indication of a cold solder joint on the connector at the back of the clock or an issue with the charging system (i.e alternator or voltage regulatator).
