i believe the safety is actually in the screw mechanism, think scissors jack. Can't go up or down without moving screw.
I think this unit is better than a midrise, as you can easily access the whole underside of the car either from the front/rear, or from the sides.
I am going to look at one within the next two weeks and will report back.

Pete,
yes, both sides are raised or lowered simultaneously.
Truthfully, I am trying to find fault with the design but it really appears to be the perfect low rise lift, and the group buy price even gets it close to being attractive. now if that price included the casters...

I ended up using this lift at the track the other day. Bill P had it in his trailer, and I needed to fix my swaybar on the Spec Boxster. It took just a few minutes to assemble and put the car up. Absolutely fantastic product, very safe. Super fast. I am getting one when my race budget allows. It even breaks down and will fit in the trailer. Made in the USA too right?

dutch,
Did you ever get this lift? I wonder if Greg Smith ever looked at it
over in INDY. I have need of something that's semi-portable and
would be curious to hear you impressions.
Thanks.

Hello, unfortunately, i did not by it, i think i asked to many questions and that seemed to make him mad. i negotiated a price for three or more lifts and when it came time to order he went back on his agreement and over inflated his price and gave me an false discount. customer service is terrible and i will not buy an exspensive lift like this without at least some type of honesty and decent customer service. not to mention he spoke badly about his other customers, which i thought was tacky but allowed me to see who i am dealing with.
i was a little disappoited but maybe it was meant to be, and i currently looking into other alternatives.
