I just got back from the Zone 2 VIR event. This was the first time at VIR with my 964 C4 with the TPC S/C kit. I have been at the track in a 996 GT3 and managed to turn a 2:10 with stock suspension and MPSC.
I loved the car but did not want to make it a Club Race car. I got the 964 which was closer to a Club Race car and therefore easier to buy and drive.
After 3 days I managed a (2) 2:15, (4) 2:16, (5) 2:17, and (1) 2:18 in a 12 lap session.
I think that the AWD drive system does not suit my driving style. This is the first AWD drive Porsche I have owned. I prefer the rear end steering ability of a 2WD car. It took a day or two to figure out how to adjust turn in, throttle modulation and the braking points in order the make the AWD handle the way it should.
I really enjoyed the S/C! It had excellent power coming out of the corners. The top speed was nice as well. It produced a consistent power band through each and every gear. I had a chance to be in the same run group as some of the H Class Club Racers. It was clear that in some of the corners they were pulling away from me and then I would gain back up to them on the straights. Over the course of the session I could see that they were getting farther and farther ahead of me.
I may be converting to 2wd drive in the near future! Loosing 250 Lbs is a benefit in the corners.

hello d964 -- it's a bit hard to get copies of panorama articles here in Australia -- is there any way a copy can be provided? It is a conversion I am interested in

Oh I read that and it did not appear easy or cheap. Didn't he conclude the article by suggesting just selling the C4 and buying a C2 would be easier?
If I had a fully prepped track C4 and wanted to go to 2 wheel drive, I might make the change. If I was starting to prep a car for track, the smart move is to get a C2 and start from there. That didn't look easy or fast or cheap or even doable by the average Porsche mechanic.
