Yep, thats sensible, i'll have the battery properly tested.
I assumed it was the small 4amp charger that was the reason it took so long.

Just a quick thread update - the problem came back and i was getting the same old 'click' from the engine area and the car wouldn't turn over. It wouldn't jump, but would push start. Anyway it turns out the power lead to the starter motor was corroded to hell. After a good clean up of the cable connections and a new nut, all is well again.

Thanks for the update...mine has just developed an intermittent starting issue. I've already looked around the starter and there looks to be most corrosion on the bolt that attaches the ground from the starter to the chassis. So reviving your thread could be very timely for me.

Boxsey, 'm sure you have already, but don't forget to check the ground lead from the battery to chassis, that corrodes badly too

Hi All

On reading this post I harked back to an article I published in our Porsche Club Queensland magazine (I'm the Editor) in 2008. It was a well-received article, by one of our members, Chris Drysdale, who is in the battery business. I've attached it here for fellow Rennlisters. Hopefully you'll find it informative. The bit about needing to drive your car for 20 mins to replace the energy used in starting the car once is a bit of a wake-up call...

Regards

Rob
