C4 ABS Unit
Hi all,
Just got a call from the garage and they have advised that (after trying everything else) my ABS/PDAS fault is most likely due to the ABS control unit being knackered.
As these units are like rocking horse poo or hens teeth to source used, does anyone know of a company (in the UK) that can repair the units?? its most probably a dry joint or a resistor has died so I would rather repair than buy new - £2k
thanks
Ade

Is that the price of a new one,cos I have a fault with my ABS light not going off,and I've narrowed it down to either the controle unit or one or more of the speed sensors.
Could do without having to spend £2k....

yes thats for a new one!!
I am looking into whether someone in the UK can repair the ecu as it is a bosch part and it seems that Audis/Volvos/VW's can get theirs repaired.

Hi Ade,
Is it with Steve Bull at the moment?
I booked mine in and they said they had one in at the moment with the same problem.
I'm assuming Steve has a Hammer/diagnostic tool - but if you want to meet up still to use my ScanTool let me know.

Give these a try, they have just repaired a Volvo (Bosch) Motronic ECU for me. There is a mention of ABS on the site so a call may be of value.

I have seen the units on ebay for 100 bucks. You might look around.
It's not 100, but at 275 its better than 2K
Ebay ABS unit

Aeroman,
That part number (964-618-119-00) is for a C2 only.
Ade,
The early C4 used 964-618-126-00, the later cars used 964-618-126-01. You can fit an -01 in an early car but not vice-versa; the -01 unit drives the speedometer in the later cars using the front left ABS sensor as a pick up. The usual fault with these units is severe corrosion of the pins where water runs down inside the loom - check the unit connectors and the pins inside the multi-plug. Also check the two relays on top of the ABS control unit and their connectors, as these can cause a similar fault (and they're a damn sight cheaper to replace!) As Indycam says, substitution is the quick and easy method to diagnose the problem. Shame you're in Wiltshire, you'd be welcome to try your Control Unit etc. in my car.

Scamper,
I have just been checking the resistance with a multi-meter at the ABS unit connector socket,(No relevant findings),but when I plugged it back in,"no warning lights"and evrything works,ABS,speedo, rear spoiler.
The only conclusion I can come to is that whilst probing in the socket connectors ,I suppose I could have tightened them up,thus giving a better contact.
Give it a try,you never know!
Fingers crossed.
Regards Marc.

There could have been dirty contacts and by taking it out you cleaned them off a bit.

Hopefully Adam can get his down to Steve's earlier and then we can find out for sure which way to go..quotes so far for repair/refurb are £150-£250 so a lot easier to swallow than a £2000 bill!!
I am really surprised no-one has posted about their experience of getting the ecu refurbed as this is a relatively "common" problem for this age of 911.
Marc, thats worth a try. When I get the car back and before I send it off to be fixed I will give the contacts one last clean/prod and see what happens.
