If you are putting it in your 993 you will need to perform or pay for about 23 +/- hours of labor....why not put a new one in and do it right.

You can get a Quaife or something similar for $1500-2000.....and you'll pay what for a used one ? 800-1000 +/- a couple of hundred freight, with no guarantees that it works and the clutch packs won't have to be rebuilt.

True, but if you are looking for a used one, I have 2 - one with 39,000 and one with 80,000 miles. I know that the one with 39,000 miles has only a few track days on it and works well. The one with 80k is unknown.

You can change an LSD in a couple hours, it's not "23 hours" of labor.

I have a new LSD from a G50/32 transmission available. I just bought a G50/32 and have decided to keep the Guard LSD I bought last year. Thus, I will be removing the LSD that came with the /32 and selling it.

Tom - how much for the used LSD - my C2 apparently does not have an LSD.

The /32 LSD I have is not used, it's new out of a new transmission I just bought. I checked 2 Porsche vendors and got prices of about $1995 to buy it from them. I'm asking $1800 unless it is bundled with the transmission I have for sale.

I'd like to find out more about this as well. My understanding is that you don't have to take the tranny out of the car and take it all apart which is where the 23 hours come into play.

Are you talking C2/C4 or turbo?

Due to the 5 link rear suspension the 993s are different animals. On a 964 you can pull the trans without removing the motor; on a 993 you cannot. Also there is plenty of room to remove the side cover on a 964, but not on a 993.

I had heard this was a long job on the C4's and turbos but never heard anything like this about the C2's. What makes the G50 tranny in the 993 more difficult to deal with than the G50 in the 964? I know it doesn't take that long in a 964 although getting the unit shimmed properly can be a real PITA.

OK seconds late in posting answered above.

What Larry mentioned is where a lot of the time is..........also, IIRC you also cannot set up the diff on a 993 with the tranny in the car either.
