Yep, that's my trick. Have just left it outside at the shop forever now! (I did remove the drivetrain.)

If you bridge the cut off switch with a 5amp fuse you will keep your preset radio stations. If an attempt is made to start it, it'll simply blow the fuse.

The car never turned up anywhere. My dad is still looking for a car, I'm trying to get him into 996s but he hates those.

There are lots of things you can do to scare off small-time thieves and thieves-of-opportunity. Any of these things you can do, you should do. But in the end nothing will stop a determined and skilled thief so just make sure you have full coverage insurance.

Yes, but I solved it another way. Just put it on the lift and never drive it anymore Dumb

Steve, you've got those reversed... The 996 should be on top collecting dust and you should be driving the 964.

problem with a cut of switch is you are resetting the ecu if the car has an ecu it has to learn the fuel map etc all again, dont know if the cis system has an engine ecu though

Not really feeling like i'm a target... I just wanted to create a reference here on RL b/c when I heard about that one stolen in SF, I was bummed. I wanted to create a thread that we all could see what the collective knowledge is. Actually, your idea is solid..
Have fun in Me-hee-ko...

the 964 DME is not "Smart" it does not learn your driving style.
you will have to reset your radio presets or security code however.

hope that helps

I always thought that even with a missing DME relay, the car can still be hot-wired. No?
