The Sport Seats for the 944 series (not 968) is the same as those used on early 80's 911s thru 964. They changed the seat (and mounting) on the 993.
FWIW, I think the change was a major setback. The newer Sport Seats do not fit me at all. The previous version (like I have on my 951 and 964) are just superb.

I put 944 seats into my 968 and they worked fine, and I put 993 seats into a 944 and they worked fine. The mounting on the 996 seats is different.

I swap seats between the late 944S2 and the 964 all the time. No issues with fit.

Greetings - Reviving this thread rather than starting a new one since I'm going to mount some early (thru '85) manual sport seats in my 964.

Who has mounted the early manual sport seats (the ones through 1985) into a 964, and if you have, how did you resolve the lack of a seatbelt receiver mounting tab? Also, since these manuals sit lower, did anyone find a solution to give back some height adjustment?

Any help is appreciated!

^^^ This. In fact, I was reading this book last night. Happened to read the section seats where he says that 964 sports seats are identical to 944 seats of a particular type...I forget the exact P/N.

The seats I'm installing aren't the sport seats from the 964 or later 944, they're the manual sport seats from the earlier 911's and 944's (pre-1986).

They'll mount right up (hole location is the same) but the height is like 2 inches shorter than the power seats, and they lack the ear for the seatbelt receiver.

There is a specific seat belt bolt receiver from the 964 RS that is available from the dealer. It welds on the center tunnel from underneath.
Otherwise you can make your own with thick steel stock and the correct tap, and weld it to the tunnel.
There is also the possibility of mounting a receiving tab from another car to the seat mounting bolts, althogh I am not a fan of this methd.
On a tangent, have you made sure that the backrest adjusting wheel on the early manual sport seat will not foul the shell/carpet as the seat goes back? I have had that issue with a Recaro A8.

Hi George,

Yes - the OEM sport seats only have the wheel on the outside so it won't be an issue. Thanks for the info on the options for the seatbelt. I'd like to avoid any permanent mods for this since I may reverse it someday so I've considered using a set of the Wedge Engineering mounting plates which include the ear for the seatbelt receiver as part of the plate.

Thanks for the input!

I would not think that welding a 964 RS part in a factory specified spot will devalue the car, and the hole in the carpet is in an invisible spot.

I agree - the issue would arise if I wanted to re-install the original buckets w/their slider mounted seatbelt tab.

I used the Brey Krause receiver mounting tabs on the inboard side of my pole positions. Would that work for you?
