993 Gearbox in a 964?

If you are willing to give tolerate higher freeway revs then you could snug up 3 -5, but it also depends on the track(s) you drive at.

So far the tracks have not been especially fast ones; CMP, Talladega GP, Barber and RA.
The others I will likely attend are Roebling and I hope VIR but mainly the ones above because they are the closest.

that's the beauty of a nicely geared 6 speed. 3-5 are used the most on track.
a g50/30 3,4,5 is 95, 114, 140 then you have 6 @ 163 for faster tracks and highway.
a 5 spd can have either the tight 3-5 or a good compromise like the /03 or /10 3-5

Gearing is a matter of person preference and need.
My daily driver is a 993 with a 6-speed gearbox that was re-geared to shorter gearing about 5 years ago. It's quite nice and only a pain in stop-and-go traffic (but thats mainly due to the LWF, IMO). The stock 964 5-speed is less than optimal for track work and I can't imagine anyone thinking it would be an "upgrade" for anything but putt-putting around town when you are too lazy to want to shift. It is certainly a performance downgrade. I will likely pull the 6-speed out of the 993 and put it into the 964 this winter (and the 5-speed will go into the 993 until I can find a good used 6-speed gearbox).

Chance: Drive what you have and enjoy it. It took me 2 years of learning/pushing my car in it's current configuration to get to the point where the weight I intend to have removed and the gearing change will likely mean a real difference in lap times. You will have plenty of folk out there to race with. I would like a chance at keeping up to Skip in his new car.

I bought a new G50/32 993 Supercup gearbox when they were available to replace the G50/10 that came in my Cup car.
It is a perfect box IMHO, the ratios as you can see in Bill Verberg's graphs slot nicely between the ratios of the G50/10 and 6th is just a touch taller than the G50'10's 5th.
The gearbox was a direct bolt in deal for my car, I also replaced the shift rod with the 993 RS part which has the solid universal joint which was also a nice touch.
Highly recommended changes

I fitted a G50/32 supercup box to my 964 and it's one of the best bang for buck you can make IMO. The 964 performance dies when you shift into 4th. With the supercup box you just drive away from a 5sp equipped car at this point. You'd need an extra 20hp+ to make up the deficit.
