Newbie Question - Can I mount my 87 930 turbo lid on my 91 964?
Hello all,
I would like to say a big hello to the 964 community.
I have had Porsches for 15+ years, but this is my first experience with the aircooled beauties. So I am new to the type, but I am jumping on the learning curve.
I have searched the past posts on this topic, but did not find a definitive answer.
In the next few months I will be starting work on my 964 project. I will be converting it to 964 turbo look.
Here is the question…
Can I mount my 1987 930 turbo engine lid on the 964 with the aid of modified hinges?
I see that there are modified hinges out there for dropping a 964 lid on a pre 89 body, but is the reverse possible?
Any input/experience appreciated.

If you are transferring the entire decklid, you can swap in either direction( at least for n/a cars, not sure if the turbo decklid has a different outline, but I doubt it). You might have to fab your own hinge adapters - but - check with Getty and MA Shaw, they might have a 911 lid -> 964 adapter.

Thanks for the input all.
The 964 turbo is not that common, so unless I run across a set of 965 hinges in the next few months, I guess it may be more cost effective to mount my turbo tail onto a 964 lid.
Hi Ilko,
Yes the name does look out of place now, but seeing at how long range my 964 turbo look project is planned, I don’t think I have to really worry about the name for a year or so yet.
To all of the 964 people curious enough to read my question, it is Ilko that has brought me into your world.
We have an arrangement on the purchase of his car (sans engine and trans). As soon as I have the chance to get down there and pick it up, I’ll start bolting on my 965 stuff.
Please blame him for the litany of stupid questions that I will be asking until I get remotely up-to-speed on this fine car.
Thanks again.

You will still need the hinges if you get a real 964 Turbo (965) engine lid.
I got a 930 wing mounted on a 964 Turbo lid. Fits without any modifications except I had to swap the hinges.

I will be mounting a RSA wing (factory wing) that I bought from a fellow Rennlister on my 964 as well. I was informed from the installer that I will need to get hinges or have adapters made to mount the decklid and wing onto my car.
Certain 964's have different shaped hindges, from my understanding, so when I drop off my car at the Porsche repair/body shop they will let me know what they will do for me.
They said fabricating adapters or getting different hinges is no real big deal.
Hope this info helps.
