Engine lid dampers - should I be able to move them?
Hi
I've bought some new engine lid dampers because my current ones are, well, not there!
But should I be able to push them in or extend then with my hands? Because I can't!
If that's normal, then fine - I'll go ahead and fit them. But I'm concerned I go to the effort of fitting them and then they don't budge - either leaving my engine lid open or not supported (not sure whether they are currently extended or pushed in).
So does anyone know if they should be this stiff?
Cheers
Scott

Yeah they are pretty stiff when new.
Do the left side first, as it is easier. Then close the lid and make sure the force is OK. Then do the other side. With long nose pliers they are really quite easy. And after you do them once, the second time is even easier.

Thanks for that.
When you say pretty stiff - I cannot budge them, even by pushing on to them against the floor.
I assume their resting state is extended so I'm right in trying to push them in? I realise that the leverage of the engine lid will have much more force than I can exert (before my hands can't take any more pushing onto the ends!!) but surely I should be able to make them twitch, just a little, no - perhaps I just need to go to the gym more!!
If they're that simple to fit then I guess trying them doesn't hurt. Although I've just noticed the pins and lock washers that hold them in are also missing and didn't come with the dampers! So I won't be trying them just yet!

Don't worry Scott... it's not that you wear a skirt or anything (presuming you are not Scottish). They are really hard to move. Get some small bolts and nuts from your local hardware store and you will be all set. You don't have to use the original Porsche type clips unless you are really **** about the historical accuracy.
