Default HELP...car wont start and backfires LOUD

I am puzzled. I have had some recent issues with my car.

I do have a cat bypass and straight pipe. I replaced the DME and put the new one back in. No change. I did have the ISV off but it looked clean.

Before it would run ruff and bog with a bad idle. Now it just wont start and backfires loud. I dont even want to try starting it again.

I feel its somewhere in the ignition or DME.

This is freaking me out. Please offer up some places to start looking.

Mine did this when I had a dodgy sparkplug.

I would check the distributor cap, rotor and belt first. It is also possible that you may have bad coils.

It's possible your distributor belt has snapped or your distributor has failed entirely. Check it out here. You don't have to take the distributor out but once you have the caps and rotors off you can inspect the belt.

Anyway....I used the pedal method to the code and I am getting 1224 so it must be the 02 censor. It must be bad. I suppose I should really look the wiring harness over again.

Anything else you can think of that related to this code?

A bad O2 sensor shouldn't prevent the car from starting.

Since you had the ISV off, maybe ensure it's properly re-installed?

TR6 should be able to help you out a bit with ISV questions, He's an "Expert". Be leery of anything he tells you to do with a screwdriver, though.
