Default RS AMERICA 0-60 IN 4.6 SECONDS!

I was looking through RSAmerica.net and found a link to an old road and Track article that quotes 0-60 in 4.6 and 1/4 mile in 13.3 @105mph, is this car that quick???

I have the original Car & Driver review and they also tested the RSA @ 4.6. It seems as though Porsche has understated their 0-60 test for some time now.

I think it is simply a matter that Porsche respects the clutch and transmission, and the testers at C&D trash the car to get ultimate numbers.

I find it difficult to believe. My turbo can do it in 4.6 seconds or less with gobs of torque but it is hard on the clutch and has nearly double the HP. I have a LWF in my C2 and it weighs just shy of 3000 pounds my Gtech says it can do 0-60 in 5.0-5.1 seconds and a 1/4 around 13.4-13.5 seconds but that is already pushing pretty hard, it is about the same as my CT and GTS. The C2 is a much easier car to launch than my turbo and maybe a better driver than I can launch it .4 seconds quicker but I would not abuse my car like that and these are not numbers you would see all the time. 5.0 seconds is still quick and it isn't so much 0-60 but the rest of the cars potential that makes it so great.

I believe it. I did three 0-60 runs in my RSA last fall back to back and the best of the three was 4.75 seconds according to my G-timer device. The only mod I had at the time was a secondary bypass (which most people don't think really adds any power anyway). I don't doubt that a more experienced driver with better launch skills could gain a little more than me as an amateur. But the statement about abusing the car is very true. You could smell my clutch by the third run so I decided to stop abusing it.

The car that I'd like to see timed is Steven C's. For a normally aspirated C2, his is way fast. Of course, its got a few mods...

TR6, aren't you the guy that did a dyno comparison of the Steve Wong chip a few weeks ago? If you ever do 3 more 0-60 pulls please let us know if the chip actually made your car faster. I would imagine that 20 hp might be noticeable on a 0-60 run unless it's all at the peak of the hp curve.

Yeah, that was me. I had actually thought about doing just that, but honestly, I am leary of the wear and tear on my RS clutch disc doing standing start launches. I wasn't kidding when I said that you could smell the clutch disc burning.

Also, it'll be a while before I do any more driving of any kind in my RSA. It's sitting at the shop right now waiting for an engine rebuild. It'll be down for at least 4 weeks.

With respect to all, the only way a stock RSA will turn a 0-60 in 4.6 sec is either from severe abuse or being towed behind a GT3.

No, I think it's developed a bad rod bearing. We won't know til we tear into it.
