Some people here have roughed up the dipstick in the critical area to make it easier to read. I just ignore the stick, since I know my gauge is accurate. Heresy, I know, but it works for me.

That's right Darryl, the dip stick has been marked, but as Greg had pointed out with his oil and mine is the same, it is that clean (like the colour straight from the can) its hard to see. Not that i'm complaining clean oil means clean engine

and if you buy cat litter that comes in a 5 gallon plastic container you can drain the oil directly from your engine & tank into the container on your next oil change and never have to worry again about overflowing your oil pan.

The easiet way to read the dipstick is to lay it on a paper towel and look at the corresponding "wet" location.

Smart Idea....You see, I can always learn something new on Rennlist.

Goes along with the famous old joke I guess. How do you find the wet spot on a fat girl?

Roll her in flour......... J/K

Yep, one side of the dip stick (the top side) seems to have the right indication of the level of oil whereas the other side (underneath) seems to have oil all the way up the stick. I just go off the gauge now and make sure it tallies with the mark on the top side of the stick!

Yep, that's what i found. The level/mark on the top side of the dip stick would appear to correspond with the gauge. I never try to get the level bang on as that is one sure way to over fill. Keep it just between half and three quarters on the stick and an eye on the gauge and that will do nicely. Just under and not a bit over
