Do they (whoever that is) make D90's that wide?

I am getting real tempted to put my original D90s back on.

I have mine on all winter- they are awesome. Fitting for the period, style-wise. But that said - the car handles better with the Cup 1's. Marginal, but better...so I like switching back and forth....

I agree! Perfect styling for that period. It seems endemic that everyone wants to update their cars, as evidenced by the plethora of cars fitted with CupsI$II, BBS, etc, etc. Frankly, some I see are actually "over-adorned", and seem to make TOO much of "a statement", and detract from the actual essence of the car. I bought my 91 Cab 2 yrs. ago already fitted with chrome Cup I's. If I ever see a perfect set of chrome D90's for a steal of a price, maybe I'll get a 2nd set. Problem is, fronts are 7"ers , and I'm pretty sure the steering stops (or whatever they are) have been installed to preclude rubbing on wheel well, and would necessitate 7" D90's, and don't know if they were orig. equip. Anyone know ballpark fig. for them in today's world?

D90's are fine with the little steering stops - I had to upgrade to the 10mm stops when I switched to the cup 1's...

Here's a photo of 16x9s and 16x7.5s on Google - look at the dish on those rears, lovely!

These wheels are very popular with the VW crowd, and can sell for the price of a nice set of Cup Is.

I actually prefer the Design 90 look to my later Design 92 wheels (see avatar), they just seem right on a 964.

I wonder what the weight difference would be between a set of D90's (8" rears) and Cup I's when shod with similar tires.

the weight diff between my winter tires - d90's 8 inch rears w michelin Alpin snows, standard sizes and the summer tires, Michelin PS2 on Cup 1's, also standard porsche suggested sizes-- is HUGE - the summer tires are way heavier.

I am not sure anyone except a pro driver would notice the diffeence between 16" and 17" rims if both were equipped with same quality tires on a track (I know I couldn't).

On the less than perfect real world streets, the 16s are much better for confort and rim protection.

It's been a couple of years since I have purchased tires but it seems to me that 16" tires are less expensive than similar 17" tires, but that there was a better selection available in the 17" size. What have others found?

Does anyone have pics of a 964 with the wider D90's? Mine has the regular standard ones for winter. but I have never seen the wide ones on our car...Or at least never noticed...

Not sure off the top of my head, but the 964 C4 Lightweight must use the larger size rims. Disregard if I'm wrong...)

Some pictures from a few years back:

If you do a search for "shrek", any picture of my car with the D90s on is the 7" and 9" wheels.

...Sorry guys, but they don't appeal to me as well, especially since they replaced the quintessential 911 Fuch wheels. I'd give my left nut for a killer set of Fuchs perfectly set up for the 964.
