Default H1 / H4 Lights and Lens Questions

Hi All

Will an H4 lens fit on an H1 light assembly? Or is an H1 lens different than an H4 lens? Will an H1 light / lens assembly fit on a 964? Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I understand, there are 2 versions of the H1 light, an European version which I believe is smaller and will not fit a North American 964 and another larger North American version which may fit a 964 which was originally fitted with H5's?

All responses welcome

Maybe I'm wrong, but isn't an H1 a single filament bulb?? Both H4 and H5 are dual (i.e. high and low) filament bulbs. H1s tend to be used for spot/fog lamps and cars with quad headlights.

The H1's may be a fog light as well but I know they are also a dual bulb driving light. From what understand they are a light which Porsche once produced which has an adjustable secondary hi beam reflector. Allowing better lighting flexibilty. They are a bit rare and good examples command a premium price. I'm hoping they a direct physical replacement fo an H4 or H5 on a 964. I'm prepared to modify the electrical connections.

When I put H4s in my car, my mechanic suggested I try to find H1s. Euro Porsches used to have them, apparently, back in ? the seventies. Apparently the beams for low and high are individually adjustable (two bulbs and I guess two reflectors, somehow) and the beam patterns are superior. I couldn't find any, but I guess they must make a version in our size. Good luck.

I have a pair of H1s that I want to put on my 92 C2 that currently has the stock US headlights. Will the H1s bolt on w/o modification? I still need to get the trim rings painted to match the color,

Get HIDs - vastly superior to the halogen alternatives.
