As a point of interest:
I believe the 1993-1995 Plymouth Town & Country Minivans used the same Nippondenso compressor, with a different clutch pulley. (ribbed instead of v-belt). If you had a junkyard nearby it might be worth a quick look.

Kirk,

Can you then swap clutch pulleys from the Minivan compressor to make it a drop in for a 964?

Kirk - thanks for the info... I looked on Autozone's site and it does list a Nip compressor that is $480 new.. So I bet that is the same one.

That said, it'd be winter again before I could make it to a junkyard with my schedule... I have 2 folks on here that have offered their used compressors pretty cheap, so I'll go that route and see if it'll work.

Cheers,

Mike

That is the theory.

I am getting ready to install a supercharger in my car. One of the changes required is to change the A/C compressor clutch/pulley from the V-Belt to the serpentine style. The company involved told me that dodge used the same compressor with a serpentine style clutch/pulley, and that was their source for the part.

I havent done it yet, so I can't guarrantee anything. But if you had a junkyard nearby it would be easy to check it out.

I don't understand the name changes on Japanese compressors. Sanden was "Sankyo". There is a 505 (tiny), 507 for mid-size cars (5-piston), and the 508 for full-size sedans (7-piston). I replaced a York in an early 911 with a 507. The 505 is the only Sanden that is lighter than the OEM Porsche 964 Nippondenso compressor. I doubt the 505 would work in August in Atlanta, or I might be tempted to shave a few pounds.

Perhaps I should diet instead.
