Default What has been your favorite 964 mod so far?

I am curious as to what you think has been your favorite mod that has really left a lasting grin on your face! Since my car has been new to me for only a month now, I'd have to say it's a toss up between the wheels and the cup pipe. The pipe definitely put more of a grin on my face! The extra growl definitely makes it more fun to row through the gears. I'm sure that will change in time with a wing coming and a chip ready to be installed as well as possibly headers and other goodies

So which is it for you guys??

Lowering the car to EuroRS spec. and replacing the tired suspension with a new H&R set.

RS Option. Totally different car than the RSA, amazing how the US missed out. The RS will go down in history as the most enjoyable Porsche to drive fast, It is just right.

Suspension (RUF). Although - if I was doing it again, I don't think I'd go the RUF route. I'm happy with it - but in this case, I'm not sure you do actually get what you pay for. I think it cost me about twice what people generally pay to change their suspension.

Turning it into a race car from a street car. It only took a few tweeks here and there It does handle a lot better once you rip out 600 lbs or so.

The best mod was the one to my wallet the day I bought the car and being an RS, there is barely a mod to make. The PO did the decat, cup pipe, hot film and remap which, all together, is the best mod to make to an RS.

I am pleased to see an American stating the above. I have respect for the RSA as a desirable model in the US but have always smiled to myself, knowing what you guys are missing out on and I wouldn't want to offend people by rubbing it in! It is a car you need to experience to understand. It is just a better C2. Sometimes things just come together and work. The 964RS is one of them. So much is just so right. I race mine on standard suspension and have no desire or need to change it. The same applies to so much of the car. The only thing I would have more of is power, because the car is good enough to handle it. You can add, as somebody has, anothe 180bhp without making any other mods and the car is still spot on! Quite extraordinary

So, what has this got to do with favorite mods? Well, having driven C2's, the first mod would be to the suspension, to get it as good as the RS.

But then again, my best mod was sorting the nut behind the wheel - getting track time and learning the car is the best thing you can do. I think you sjould match car mods and instruction/track time, $ for $.

Decat?
Isn't removing the cat converter a no no with the epa?

And carries a decent fine if found?
Not nit picking just interested if you figure this is an issue.

Best mod for the car itself? G pipe. $170 gives a great sound that's not too loud, much better than stock, and takes about 30 minutes to install.
Best money spent? Track time. It's so fun and in a different league than driving around fast on the country roads. If I don't watch out my little Amazon coupe is going to end up just like Tom W's.

Best mod? That's tough. I will list my favorite three.

1) Replacing D90's with Cup 1 wheels (improved looks)

2) Replacing H5 headlights with H4's with 80/100W bulbs (better vision at night)

3) Lowering the car with H&R springs (green) and Bilstein HD shocks (better looks & handling)

In the UK it's only a requirement to have a catalytic convertor from (August?) 1992 onwards.

My favorite mod...
The custom exhaust I built..... I love the sound.

I get very little use out of the stereo now, and I smile everytime I push the accelerator.

Cat bypass/cup pipe - it's a wonderful world.

Also replacing key bulb with LED - a small thing, but it makes those dark early morning winter starts a lot easier! (http://p-car.com/diy/key/)
