Default leaky bonnet

Hi All,

Recently tracked down cause of occasional damp carpet in front luggage compartment to the bonnet seal which doesn't contact the body very well right at the front - it's also turned a bit grey/white instead of black where it has lifted away. I've tried finessing seal to make it stay in position, but no luck. I'm assuming it's dried out a bit and is just a bit old.

Is this likely to need a replacement, or can I treat the seal in any way to bring it back to full functionality?

Cheers

Andrew

I'm not a rubber restoration expert but its been my experience that once the rubber seals start leaking or cracking, that you need to replace them. Trying to do repairs is at best a temporary solution.

I replaced mine a few years ago - it's actually pretty easy. Obviously you need to be careful about making sure the bonnet lies straight after unbolting the hinges.

One way to try is to gently lift the rubber seal and put double sided tape beneath it to build up the thickness and tighten the seal.
